Inspired by Antarjyami Muni’s virtuosic twin conch performance, this piece is a stunning voyage through uniquely beautiful acoustical shapes. Composed by Nazir Jairazbhoy in 1965, the piece combines Jairazbhoy's 1964 field recordings from Orissa as a basis in sound and his own improvisations on the box zither, surmandal, unconventionally tuned to parallel the conches 

The CD includes an illustrated lecture detailing the conception and method of constructing the piece and its inner narrative, and includes examples by Ustad Bade Ghulam Ali Khan and Ustad Bundu Khan as they sing and accompany themselves on the surmandal in unique styles.
